How Disney Dreamlight Valley Has Brought Out My Inner Photographer

Hey, my peeps. May the algorithm bring this piece to you.

Disney Dreamlight Valley will probably always be a game I hate to love.

I’ve explained why at length, but despite that, I can’t help but continue playing and also encourage others to play because there is definitely value in this game outside of its flaws.

One value I found and didn’t even realize was photography practice.

Now, I have to preface these statements by clarifying that I was a Journalism major in college and took a photography class.

While I failed the class, what I learned still stuck with me.

My professor once said, “When you understand the concepts of photography, you start finding great photos everywhere.”

And I never knew how valid those words were, especially in this game.

Now I understand that there are definitely more graphically intense games with actual in-depth photo modes that can really bring home my point here.

However, I truly feel Dreamlight’s simplicity makes these photos all the more beautiful.

Especially the fact that the game still has that hand-drawn cartoon feel.

I have to criticize my photos, though.

Most of my best images are taken while seated in one or two locations, replenishing energy.

That’s the only time I really stop to look around, and I don’t have that much seating throughout the Valley.

Also, the game does have a photo mode that I haven’t fully utilized, but luckily, right now, I’m just practicing.

Overall, Dreamlight Valley has started to re-spark my creativity not just in-game photos but also in my work as a whole, and that’s way more than I ever expected.
