Amazon Luna: From Packages To Game Streaming

And How Good Is It Really?

(Photo saved from About Amazon)

Hello, my peeps, and may the algorithm bring this piece to you🙏🏾.

I’m not going to lie; I was in no mood to post today for many reasons, but like I said before, the grind never stops, and besides, what better way to cheer myself up than writing anyway?

Amazon Luna is a cloud game streaming platform developed and run by Amazon almost worldwide on March 1, 2022. The platform is available on all devices (barring consoles, of course) and is seamlessly integrated with Twitch, the most popular game live-streaming app (ha, I see what you did there, guys.)

So, without further ado, let’s get into this

The Basics

Luna is only available through a subscription after buying the official Amazon Luna controller or with your third-party controller on whatever device you want.

For Computers and other portable devices, Luna can be played via a web browser or dedicated app, and on TVs or Amazon devices run through a custom app.

Luna offers a base plan for $5.99, offering you access to about 100 games, but if you spend an additional $14.99 a month, you get those games plus access to a fair amount of Ubisoft games vault.

Finally, for all my gamers reading from around the world, I hope you live in the U.S., UK, Canada, Germany, France, Italy, or Spain because if not, you won’t have access to this service at all.

Gameplay & Visuals

I’ve played many of the games offered and even talked about quite a few of them here, I just thought I’d narrow down some cliff notes from some of my favorite game posts because many of what I would say now would have been rehashed anyway.

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown

Gameplay: “…this game is unforgivable even on Standard, which was the mode I played on. You must be efficient with your parry, special attacks, dodge, etc., or you will get wrecked…” Quoted from Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown an Unexpected Gem.

Visuals: I had no issues graphically; as you might expect, the game is beautiful, and the game switches seamlessly between 2D and 3D in cutscenes and gameplay.

Control

Gameplay: “This game is a blast, and an hour honestly didn’t do this game full justice. When played on either a controller or touch screen, everything was fluid (for the most part)…” Quoted from Game Streaming on iPhone.

Visuals: “The only fundamental flaw with streaming currently is latency issues, and minor pop-in was my most prominent issue…” Quoted from Game Streaming on iPhone.

Final Thoughts

All in all, Luna is reasonably priced and performs as such.

However, in comparison to its competition, Amazon Luna is lacking critical things such as a dedicated chat and game party system, more well-known games available + more games in general, and, above all, better advertising; no one else seems to be interested in this platform which is a shame because it does have so much potential.

I do believe Amazon will fix a lot of these issues in the future, especially because this platform is relatively young as well.

Thank you so much for reading, and as always, I’ll catch you guys in the next one ;).
